Faculty Position: Practical Theology

The Church Divinity School of the Pacific (CDSP) invites applicants for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position in Practical Theology for its hybrid MDiv program. This appointment will be open rank role (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) and will begin on June 1, 2026. Successful candidates must hold a PhD (ABD will be considered) and have academic training in homiletics and/or pastoral theology. Parish experience is an advantage. CDSP is particularly interested in appointing faculty who can teach across a variety of subject areas; who teach their discipline in the light of the needs of church leaders in the twenty-first century; and who are committed to forming pastoral leaders.

Successful candidates will also contribute to some of the following areas: antiracism and diversity, equity, and inclusion; interreligious fluency; ministerial leadership; mission & evangelism; and women’s studies. In addition, all faculty are expected to contribute to the teaching of other theological disciplines according to their skills and experience. Faculty are also expected to carry out scholarly agenda in their field of expertise.

CDSP intentionally accepts annually a small student body to provide concentrated attention to individuals, cohorts, and the collective student community. CDSP’s hybrid MDiv program requires faculty to teach classes in both asynchronous online and short-term in-person modalities. Faculty are required to be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship and are free to live anywhere they wish in the U.S. as long as they can meet the demands of the job. Faculty will also be expected to advise students and engage in service. A deep commitment to working (primarily remotely) in an engaged and collegial manner with other faculty and staff colleagues is of foremost importance. Periodic travel will be required for this role.

Successful candidates will also demonstrate a commitment to the holistic formation of students. As the mission of the seminary is to prepare priests for the Episcopal Church, candidates will demonstrate a commitment to the church and the health of its leaders, to community, to theological reflection, and to the formation of the whole student. Strong preference will be given to candidates who are ordained in a church in the Anglican Communion or a full communion partner. Prospective faculty who consider seminary preparation as part of their vocation and who come from minoritized populations and communities are encouraged to apply.
Starting salary range is $100,000-$130,000 (this covers all ranks) and commensurate with rank and experience.

Candidates should send a letter of application, C.V., and the names of three references (two academic and one that speaks to the candidate’s ecclesial commitment) to Melissa Posada, faculty assistant, at mposada@cdsp.edu. Review of applications will begin November 1, 2025.
