Frequently Asked Questions

How will I receive information about my courses?

Once you are admitted to the program, you will be assigned a CDSP email account (ex., which you can forward to your regular email once you’ve logged in. All communications will be sent to this account, including program updates and access to reading materials.

When should I arrive?

Please plan to arrive by noon on Sunday, June 16. Academic orientation will occur on Sunday afternoon. The academic session begins Monday with morning prayer at 7:30am and class at 8:00am.

What should I bring?

Laptop, warm clothing (layers), all assigned materials. Summer in Berkeley can be surprisingly chilly, especially at night when the fog rolls in, so pack accordingly.

Where will I eat?

Snacks are provided. Lunch will be served and is included in your program fee. Breakfast and dinner are on your own, but there are many restaurants and coffee shops in the area, as well as kitchens in the dorms and other campus lodgings. Please let us know in the Information Survey if you have dietary restrictions or other needs.

How will my time be structured?

You will be in class daily from 8:00 to 5:45 with a break for lunch. On Saturday, June 22nd, no classes or activities are scheduled, but the day is intended for study. On Sunday, we invite you to visit a local parish. Worship during the week includes morning prayer at 7:30am, noon Eucharist, and evening prayer at 6pm. The session continues through dinner on Friday, June 28, so please plan to stay into the evening or overnight that day. An example daily schedule may be viewed here.

Where will I stay?

Accommodations are not included in the course fees. Please contact Easton Hall ( or 510-204-0732) for more information about housing on campus, or to request a reservation.

Parsons: $79/night
Gibbs: $79/night shared bath, $99/night private bath
Easton: $99/night

All rooms in Parsons are single-occupancy dorm-style with shared bathroom, towel and linen service once per week (with more towels available on request), free wi-fi, and on-site laundry. Rooms include twin bed with bedding and towels. If you are prone to being cold at night, you may wish to bring an extra blanket.

Rooms in Gibbs are single-occupancy hotel-style with shared bathroom. Rooms in Easton are single-occupancy hotel-style with private bathroom. Bookings are made in the order received while availability lasts.

What is the Summer Program Fee?

The program fee goes towards lunch and snacks each day, special dinners, and other supplies for the session.

When does the Summer Intensive program conclude?

Activities continue through a closing dinner on Friday, June 22, which concludes around 8:30pm.
