The Rev. Dr. John L. Kater, Jr. Endowed Scholarship Fund

John Kater

The John Kater Scholarship honors the life work of a long-time CDSP faculty member and benefits deserving students by providing funds to reduce educational costs.

The Rev. Dr. John Kater, professor emeritus of ministry development, began teaching at CDSP in 1990 and is still active in its low-residency program. He founded and directed the Center of Anglican Learning and Leadership (CALL) for ten years. Kater also coordinated a program that gave Episcopal seminarians the opportunity to study in Panama, and helped shape CDSP’s relationship with Ming Hua seminary in Hong Kong, where he frequently taught.

The scholarship was established in 2016 with a gift from Lillian Woo, a public policy specialist who met Kater in a Chinese class when both were students at Columbia University.  To contribute, donate online or send a check made out to CDSP with “Kater Fund” in the memo field to 2450 Le Conte Ave, Berkeley CA, 94709.

Your generosity provides students with high-quality, community-based formation that integrates scholarship, reflection, worship, spirituality, and the practice of ministry. We are grateful for your support.
