The Right Rev. Lucinda Beth Ashby was consecrated the fourth Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of El Camino Real on January 11, 2020.

Throughout Bishop Lucinda’s life and career, bilingual education has been her passion and calling. She began her career as a classroom teacher and later became Head of a private school K-6 school in Sacramento. From there, she was called as a consultant to build a school on a Native American reservation in the Capay Valley in Northern California. While attending seminary at CDSP, she continued to follow her call to educate, teaching the “Ministry in a Latino Context” class for seminarians. While serving as Canon to the Ordinary in the Diocese of Idaho, Lucinda raised up leaders through Congregational Development and began an Iona Collaborative partnership with Eastern Oregon to form those on ordination path for diaconate and priesthood.

In the Diocese of El Camino Real, Bishop Lucinda has focused extensively on leadership development and formation. Her work has included establishing the West Coast Collaborative, a bilingual School for Ministry based on the curriculum from the Iona Collaborative, which, in partnership the Dioceses of San Diego and Northern California forms people for lay and ordained leadership. Bishop Lucinda continues to work tirelessly to build the best team for the Diocese, both in her staff at Sargent House and in the Diocesan Leadership. Her goal is to equip leaders so that they know the Episcopal Church and are confident in living into their Baptismal Covenant.
