CDSP Names the Rev. David Beckmann as Visiting Fellow
By Paul Impey, ’23
CDSP has named the Rev. David Beckmann as a visiting fellow for the 2021 Spring Semester.
Beckmann, a Lutheran minister, served as president of Bread for the World from 1991-2020, successfully lobbying congress to strengthen its commitment to ending world hunger. He also founded and served as president of The Alliance to End Hunger, and was awarded the World Food Prize in 2010. Author of numerous books on faith, economics, and politics, his most recent publication is titled Exodus from Hunger: Changing the Politics of Hunger.
As part of his appointment at CDSP, Beckmann will teach a course called Poverty and Communities of Faith in the Politics of 2021. Designed for the study of poverty policy issues and the engagement of faith communities at this highly consequential moment in U.S. politics, the course will feature remote presentations by other national leaders at the nexus of poverty, faith, and politics.
The course is a joint offering of CDSP and the UC-Berkeley Goldman School of Public Policy. Learn more about Beckmann on his website, davidbeckmann.net.
