Adjusting the Lens of Mission

Preparing Adaptive Leaders for the Body of Christ
7:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 24
Easton Hall, CDSP
2401 Ridge Road, Berkeley, CA
Free and open to the community

CDSP presents an evening discussion featuring three Christian leaders:
The Very Rev. Dr. Mark Richardson, President and Dean, Church Divinity School of the Pacific
The Right Rev. Dr. Frank Griswold, Former Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church
Dr. Mark Jordan, Professor of Humanities at Washington University, St. Louis

In recent years, Christians have been examining the mission of the Body of Christ is in this post-Christendom world. The Anglican Communion has defined the Five Marks of Mission as:
To proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom.
To teach, baptize, and nurture new believers.
To respond to human need by loving service.
To seek to transform unjust structures of society.
To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation and sustain and renew the life of the earth.

We know our mission must speak to the larger culture and church leadership must be able to translate the Reign of God in meaningful ways without diluting the Good News. But questions remain. How do we preserve the richness, wisdom, and genius of our heritage in an adaptive way? How do we pass on our complex Christian tradition given the present culture in which many haven’t been raised in any religious tradition? How do we prepare leaders to adjust the lens of mission appropriately in response to context?
