Ecology, Christian Spirituality, and Social Justice: Josiah Royce, Teilhard de Chardin, and Rudolf Steiner
A Forum with Robert McDermott
Thursday, April 18, 2013
7:30pm in Tucson Common Room
This lecture will recommend three 20th century thinkers who might be enlisted profitably as humanity faces the probability of ecological devastation: Josiah Royce, a Christian philosopher; Teilhard de Chardin, an evolutionist, paleontologist, and Roman Catholic mystic; Rudolf Steiner, a Christian esotericist.
Other Christian ecological thinkers such as Rosemary Radford Ruether and Sally McFague are also important in this cause but Royce, Teilhard, and Steiner would seem to be ethically and spiritually significant in ways that are perhaps less well known to the CDSP community.
Robert McDermott, is president emeritus, California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) and chair of the CIIS Program in Philosophy, Cosmology, and Consciousness (PCC). He was Secretary of the American Academy of Religion.
