Joanne Leslie CTS’01 was ordained as a vocational deacon on June 8 at Holy Faith, Inglewood, CA, in the Diocese of Los Angeles.

Robert Sipe ’01 on Dec. 14, 2001, for the Diocese of Idaho

Julie Wizorek ’01 on Feb. 9 at St. Patrick’s, Kenwood, CA, for the Diocese of El Camino Real

Dori Torrey ’01 on Feb. 16 at St. Michael’s, Carmichael, CA, for the Diocese of El Camino Real

Laura K. Toepfer ’01 on May 4 in the Church of the Holy Spirit, the chapel of Kenyon College, Gambier, OH for the Diocese of Rochester. She has served as Chaplain to Kenyon College and assistant Rector at Harcourt Parish, Gambier, since September 2001.

First Calls

John Allen ’02 is an Associate Pastor at Grace Cathedral, San Francisco.

Mary Gavin ’02 is the Incumbent (AKA Rector) of Quill View Anglican Parish in the Diocese of Saskatoon, Canada, a cluster including congregations in Foam Lake, Quill Lake, Wadena, and Wynyard, Saskatchewan.

Betsey Hawley ’02 is the Associate Rector at Grace Church, St. Helena, CA.

Richard Helmer ’02 is the Vicar of Christ Episcopal Church Sei Ko Kai, San Francisco.

John Williams ’02 is the Associate Rector at Old Donation Episcopal Church, Virginia Beach, VA.

Dennis Tierney ’02 is the Curate at St. Bede’s, Menlo Park, CA.

Esther Poirier ’02 is the Vicar of the Church of Our Savior, Monroe, Washington.

Kelly West ’02 is the Curate at All Saints’Pontiac, MI.

Ken Wratten ’03 is the Vicar of St. Stephen’s, San Jose, CA.


Beyond Seminary

Kate Lewis ’02 will start a year-long CPE residency at Santa Monica/UCLA Medical Center in its newly formed Palliative Care Unit.

Bonita Palmer ’02 is the Facilitator of the Formation for Healing Ministries program in the Diocese of Cal-ifornia, a position which was funded by a grant from Trinity Church, Wall Street. She is a Spiritual Director for individuals and groups and a Complementary Medicine Consultant at St. Luke’s Hospital, San Francisco, in association with the Integrative Center for Culture and Healing

Anne Slakey ’02 was awarded a grant from the Episcopal Evangelical Education Society, which will be matched by the Diocese of Northern California. She will work to establish parish-based campus ministries at community colleges in the Sacramento area and plans to work out a model for ministry at community colleges that will transfer to other areas.

 

2000s

Betsey Hawley ’02 and Michael Monnot ’02 are engaged to be married. Their wedding is scheduled for September.

Kelly West ’02 and Brian Kirby ’03 are engaged to be married. Their wedding is scheduled for January 10, 2003, in Michigan.

Heath Civetta ’00 and Peter are parents of a son, Dominic Eli, born April 12. His arrival had been eagerly anticipated by 3-year-old Sophia.

Mary K. Morrison ’00 is now the Pastoral Associate at St. Luke’s, Los Gatos, CA. She was formerly the Program Director for CALL.

David Stock ’00 and The Rev. Emily J. Schnabl (Seabury Western ’00) were married in November 2001.

Jo Weber CTS’00 graduated from the School for Deacons of the Diocese of California on May 19.

 

1990s

Kurt Huber ’98 became the Vicar of St. Peter’s, Monroe, CT, on July 1.

Jennifer Baskerville ’97 will be joining the CDSP in late August as Director of Alumni/ae and Church Relations.

Margurita Swetman ’97 was installed as Rector of Grace Church, Union City, NJ, in the Diocese of Newark on May 18.

Luan Mendel ’95 has moved to Corona del Mar, CA, where she is Director of Operations for THINK Together, a non-profit organization that operates a network of 13 after-school homework and tutoring centers in low-income neighborhoods of Orange County.

Joan Jackson ’90 retired on March 31, 2002, as Rector of St. John’s, Kingston, NY, and has moved to Cape May Beach, NJ, where she is enjoying life in a great area and doing supply work.

Neil Lawson ’90 has been called to the Church of the Redemption, Southampton, PA. He was previously the vicar of Christ Church, Lemoore, CA.

 

1980s

Sosthenes Enyabo MTS’89 completed a B.A. Honors in Theology degree in May 2001 at the Reformed Theological College of the University of Cape Town. In March 2002 he was appointed Dean of Immanuel Cathedral in Arua, Uganda, Diocese of Madi/
West Nile. He reports that CDSP equipped him well for this new ministry.

Barbara Mudge ’82 has been elected Provincial Coordinator of the Episcopal Diocesan Ecumenical Officers.

Gayle Harris ’81 was been elected the 7th Bishop Suffragen of the Diocese of Massachusetts on June 1.

Jeffrey Bullock ’80, ’99, reports exciting news including being appointed a Pastor-Theologian by the Center of Theological Inquiry at Princeton Seminary. He also has had a number of book reviews published by Alban and a review and an article published by Theology Today on John Milbank and Robert Wuthnow. Jeff also reports that wife Nancy (Danow), a former member of the CDSP Board of Trustees, is Executive Director of Episcopal Community Services for the Diocese of Arizona where she also serves as Director for Episcopal Relief and Development and Episcopal Migration Ministries. Both Nancy and Jeff have become endorsers of the Ekklesia Project and Nancy will be attending their annual conference in Chicago this June.

 

1970s

Penelope Duckworth ’78, who has been the Episcopal Chaplain at Stanford University for 17 years, has been called as Rector of Calvary Church, Santa Cruz.

 

1960s

Ken Richards ’68 is now interim rector at St. Paul’s, Modesto, CA. He was formerly the rector of St. Michael’s, Ridgecrest, CA.

John Metivier ’66 reports on his current ministry as Presbyter-at-Large, based at the Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Kenton, Harrow, UK: “On Sundays, I have the whole range of Anglican liturgy: transalpine, alleluia, ‘decently and in order’ BCP. I do enjoy it.”

I n M e m o r i a m

The Diocese of Oregon, in the May 13 issue of “Close to the Diocese,” reports the death of the Rev. Loren Bush ’56. He is survived by his wife, Shirley.

Anne L. Morgan, widow of Charles G. Morgan ’68, died on April 5 in Arizona. Her son John, who reported her death, told of his fond memories of the CDSP community in the late 60’s. He enjoyed the halloween celebrations and his sister liked the Easter Egg hunt.

Ed Stockley, husband of Jane Foraker-Thompson ’97, died on February 19 in Nevada.
